Macrium Reflect X will be Subscription-Only Pricing, One-Time Payment removed

Macrium has announced that it will launch its latest backup software, Reflect X on October 8, introducing a shift in its pricing model and adding several enhancements. With the new release, Macrium is removing one-time payments and shifting to only an annual subscription plan.

New Subscription Model for Reflect X

Macrium defended the removal of the one-time payment, noting that an annual subscription model is necessary as it ensures customers stay up-to-date with critical security updates. It also guarantees subscribers access to premium technical support services.

For businesses with mission-critical infrastructure that prefer stability and minimal feature updates, Macrium says that it will still offer one-time licenses with long-term support and maintenance options through LTSC. These LTSC editions will only be available by contacting Macrium sales or an authorized reseller.

Reflect 8 Support and Transition Options

Macrium has committed to providing system-critical updates and fixes for Reflect 8 for one year after Reflect X’s release. Additionally, technical support for Reflect 8 will continue for the foreseeable future.

For users who purchased Reflect 8 on or before March 31, 2024, Macrium says it will provide further details on upgrading existing licenses when Reflect X is launched. If you purchased Reflect 8 after April 1, 2024, you’ll have two choices:

Continue using Reflect 8 or Trade in your existing license for a 3-year subscription with Reflect X at no extra cost. This trade-in option will deactivate your Reflect 8 license once the new one is activated.

Your access to Reflect X will be immediate, but if you choose not to upgrade, you will still be able to restore your data, even though creating new backups won’t be possible. Macrium has also made its backup files open-source, ensuring you retain full ownership of your data.

Business users will have a 6-month window following Reflect X’s launch to decide whether to stick with their current version or upgrade to the new subscription model.
