Spotify is Increasing Premium Subscription Prices in Canada

Spotify premium price increase

Spotify has announced a 15% increase in subscription prices for users in Canada. The price adjustment will take effect on users’ next billing cycle, with the cost for Spotify Premium Individual rising from CA$10.99 to CA$12.69 per month, plus applicable taxes.

The Premium Individual plan gives access to one Premium account and 15 hours per month of listening time from Spotify’s audiobooks catalog.

All Spotify Premium plans offer features such as offline music downloads, ad-free listening, the ability to play any song on demand, and unlimited skips.

Spotify is also updating the pricing for its other subscription plans. Students can now opt for Spotify Premium Student, which is more affordable at CA$6.39 per month, up from the previous CA$5.99.

For couples or roommates, the Premium Duo plan, which includes two Premium accounts, has seen its price increase from CA$14.99 to CA$17.89 per month.

Families who share Spotify will also feel the impact, as the Premium Family plan, which includes up to six Premium or Kids accounts, has jumped from CA$16.99 to CA$20.99 per month.

Spotify says that is increasing subscription prices to continue innovating. For instance, they recently launched an AI Playlist feature, available to Premium subscribers, which allows users to create personalized playlists by typing a prompt into the chat.

While the new prices position Spotify as slightly more expensive than YouTube Premium, which includes YouTube Music as part of its plan, Spotify’s vast library of music could help maintain its loyal user base.
